I watched the GBG Halloween ep last night it was really good ….. some house eh ….. i don’t know how they live there. Great stories hats off to Michella S she has done a fine job and makes a good team with our Richard ….. lets hope the Beeb has a brainwave and gives her a para investigation show 😉 She is also a welcome addition to Spring\Autumnwatch.

Agree about Ghost Adventures and the amount of ‘padding’ that seems to be in the more recent shows. Check out early series episodes on youtube, they have barely any interviews or larking about.
Did you see when they visited the UK and went to the Hellfire Caves? They asked two blokes wandering around outside drinking lager at 9 in the morning what they thought of the place. I was cringing lol.
I think Crickley Hall will be aired about end Jan – when all the contentious stuff has died down a little?

Hi everyone…another rainy day in Norwich !!!….. been shopping for a hat for my son’s wedding next month……….. I’m soooo not a hat person ,lol. I finally settled on a bill and ben flowerpot/ mrs schilling on a bad day hat !!!

Tried to make some bath bombs this morning which may explode before they even smeell a bath and put up two curtain poles. First one was perfect, second one has fallen off the wall taking the plaster with it !!!! not such a good day today !!

WOW Vikki, I am so jealous, I’d love to visit all the places you did in Edinburgh. I went to Edinburgh a couple of years ago…just passing through and thought it was a wonderful city, wanted to visit so many places but just didn’t have the time.

I found your ‘essay’ lol, really interesting and very honest, ie your lack of feeling spirit presence in the cemetery. I agree that if the place was that dangerous then it would be locked and people certainly wouldn’t want to live next to it !!! I have watched documentaries on the graveyard and it has sent shivers up my spine at the thought of such a strong powerful spirit that can haunt and hurt people in such a way, glad you escaped unhurt.

Was it a public or private tour ? would anyone be able to attend it or was it a one off ?

Hello again, everyone, great to see you all. A very happy belated Halloween and a happy day of the dead, it was the Mexican Day of the Dead on the 2nd and the pictures I’ve seen of it have been amazing, so vibrant and beautiful. 😀
Next stop, Fireworks/Bonfire night! Sparks will fly! 😀

Sparks were awesome, by the way, as I knew they would be, still got it after nearly 40 years in the business. 😀 Their tour was called Two Hands, One Mouth, why? Because that’s all they need… Two hands, one mouth that’s all they need… that’s all they need, to satisfy you… It was an amazing, surreal experience, so, everything you’d expect from The Brothers Mael. 😀

Shall I tell you about my time in Edinburgh? 😉

I met a very good friend in Edinburgh and we (my family) spent the weekend in Edinburgh with him and a few members of his family (he himself lives in Glasgow) it was strange, as I’d known him over the internet for 14 months, but this was the first time we’d met face-to-face, but we quickly picked up where we’d left of online discussing everything from various ghost shows in Edinburgh locations that we’d be visiting to the lovable foibles of our animal friends. He’s come by here once, he tends to avoid anything with the MH brand generally, but I do pass on some interesting findings from other members here and comments that might interest him. 🙂

Edinburgh was stunning, such a wonderful city, the history and beauty of it was awe-inspiring. We visited the castle last Saturday, fantastic place, the layers and layers of history from the oldest part of the castle (the chapel of St Margaret) to the more recent additions (the monument to the fallen in wars) everywhere you could feel the history and physically stand in the room where James VI of Scotland/James I of England was born to Mary Queen of Scots (she was almost 6 foot, which even today a woman of nearly 6ft is rare, so she must have been a quite a striking woman, with her rich auburn hair, hazel eyes and powerful stature) I did have a bit of a giggle with my friend about the memories of Lesley Smith as Mary Queen of Scots in various clips we’d seen.

That evening, we took part in the vigil at Mary King’s Close, a wonderful location and very highly spoken of by ghost groups who had been there in the past, so I was a bit nervous for a few reasons, it was my first investigation, so I wasn’t sure quite what to expect, and that the location was so hyped up that I was worried that the evidence we captured may not be up to the hype. So I went into MKC with a sceptical scarf of many colours, a Ghostbusters hoodie and crucially, an open mind. Dr Ciaran O’Keeffe would be very proud. XD

The investigation itself was very interesting, and run by a group who took a stern view on people messing about, which was good, as it being close to Halloween, we were worried that there’d be people there who were going to be a bit excitable, luckily, that didn’t happen. The medium was a good addition to the team, but there was a lack of specifics (names, dates, etc…) please don’t get me wrong, she was a lovely woman and I do believe that mediums have a place in investigations, but in the end, there was not much going on and she admitted that. An elderly couple were in one part, a man in a leather apron in the fireplace of another, the watcher was also there (the next night we found out the other name by which this particular entity is known by in another location) and a black figure that was hiding himself from her in Mr Chesney’s House (needless to say me and my friend were right in there getting stuck in trying to communicate with him, and we got some interesting results, I’ll give you the link to my friend’s report, let’s just say we later understood why he was a bit tetchy. XD ) and in another room there was a man pacing around who we tried to communicate with via an EVP experiment. The results of which are also on my friend’s report. I thought my voice sounded odd when I was asking, but I found out why that was a few days after I got back home. We also tried a transfiguration experiment with the medium, which was not as successful as I’d have hoped and we tried out some kit, I got a lazar thermometer, (Dr Ciaran O’Keeffe, eat your heart out. XD ) It was a great night, a bit flat regards activity, didn’t get much in Annie’s room. In the entrance to the site (not in the close itself), I did feel almost as though something had touched my leg, but if Annie had marked me out to communicate with later, she didn’t follow it up, so I have to say I’m more inclined to believe that it was the result of me shifting my weight and my trousers rubbing against my leg and the suggestion of the location. The temperature was fairly level, give or take one or two degrees near walls and the centre of the crowded room, so nothing that unusual. There was a slight increase in EMF in a few spots, but I’ll let my friend tell you about that. No sudden changes of mood, bar a slight sadness at the shrine to Annie, but all in all the investigation was fascinating, MKC is a wonderfully atmospheric place and one I would recommend visiting even for a day tour (not that you’d notice the difference between night and day once you’re in the close itself.)

The next day, we visited the Edinburgh dungeons (which were amazing and well worth a visit, all the gory spooky history of Edinburgh in one place with the added interactivity with some characters) and Greyfriars Kirkyard and saw the statue of Greyfriars Bobby outside the cemetery, people having their photos taken with him and I took a photo of the dog himself, it’s a good, sharp photo and I’m very proud of it. Then we had a look around, on either side of the entrance to the churchyard there are a pub and a shop bearing the name of Greyfriars Bobby and as you walk into the churchyard itself there is a memorial. I found this very saddening, as the idea of my furry friends being so distraught after my death that they sat moping beside my grave for 16 years was not an idea that I was very keen on, but I think the enduring idea is one of lifelong friendship, love and devotion. My friends told me about how they’d found it was a hoax staged by the local people to drum up tourism and there were actually about six dogs, but it clearly worked. The statue of Greyfriars Bobby is never alone.
Inside the cemetery, we saw images of skulls and skeletons, which had been knocked by Zak Baggans as being evil, but in reality are symbols of ascent to heaven and eternal life thereafter, or as masonic symbols. We spent a few discussions on the GA team and Zak in particular, the great strutting peacock that he is, flexing his muscles in his piece to camera then being the first to say “did you hear that!?” with eyes the size of dinner plates, still, he makes us laugh when he does that; it’s like he suddenly realised that muscles are not going to be all that effective on ghosts. XD
Then we went to the quiet area just off the main cemetery, the gates closed, chained and padlocked, the location of the Black Mausoleum and the main stomping ground of the MacKenzie poltergeist. The gates are closed to prevent the morbidly curious going in, as many hundreds of people died there and respect for that needs to be shown, although there is a tour that does go in there to go a quick vigil in the Black Mausoleum. We took a few pictures of the site and the mausoleum, couldn’t get too close, but we didn’t suffer any ill effects from the area, apparently the MacKenzie poltergeist likes to scratch or hurt people who get too close, but the buildings immediately backing off of the black mausoleum, are inhabited, so they can’t suffer too many ill effects from living in such close proximity to the site, certainly not enough to reconsider living there. I’m sorry if I’m coming across as a spoil sport, but it’s something that’s worth considering, if it was so dangerous to go there, then on health and safety grounds then surely they would be boarded up and locked up permanently, ditto the Edinburgh Vaults with the rotating cursed stones. Maybe I’m getting cynical, but it does give you something to think about.

That evening, we went on a ghost walk around a small portion of Edinburgh and the history, the amount of it and the layers and layers of it that were just in that small area around Parliament Sq. The Englishmen who drank to the health of the king (when Scotland was a republic) the one making the toast had his tongue cut off, the one who listened having his ears cut off. The site of the old cemetery (now under a car park, John Knox is buried there) the site of the old gallows and the longest hanging in history, we passed by Advocates Close, where a Judge was murdered, we stopped by Mary Kings Close and heard ghost stories about people who came to live in the Close after the clean up following the inhabitants allegedly being bricked in and abandoned to their fate. Allegedly the bodies were hacked up and buried in a mass grave. Although not much evidence can be found for these events or the story, it made for an atmospheric ghost story with the disembodied heads and limbs, and the disembodied lower arm, hand outstretched to shake theirs, a welcoming committee.
We then entered the Blair Street Vaults and had a look around, hearing about ghost stories in the vaults, from a kindly cobbler, to a lady who has an intense hatred for pregnant women whether they knew they were expecting or not. We heard a ghost story about Apartment 17 (my friend has got the full story including where the apartment was) to another spirit, the watcher (whom we recognised from the medium’s walk around the previous night) he also lurks around the vaults, but we went into his room where they told us that he was known by another name, and only seems to interact with people in that one room, he wears a blue coat and big leather boots from which he gets the name Mr Boots. That was a ‘Dun dun duuuuuunn!’ moment. On a previous vigil, my friend had been down the Niddry Street vaults and the medium had called him William, saying he didn’t like the name Mr Boots and apparently his name was William, apparently he was a landlord, but my friend said that some speculate that he may have also been a pimp, which might explain to a degree the aggressive behaviour towards women. We stayed in his room for a few minutes, knowing of his hatred for women, I was expecting to feel something, being on the shorter side of average and much smaller than him (bullies being cowards and all), but nothing. Maybe my sceptical scarf and Ghostbusters hoodie kept them away (I ain’t afraid of no ghost) or maybe he was out watching somewhere else in the vaults, or maybe (because my open-mindedly sceptical friend would want me to put this up as an option) he’s not there at all and it’s all nonsense.
Then we all went up for drinks and listened to tales of Burke and Hare, Helen Duncan and rounded off by a fictional ghost story which linked back into Apartment 17. It was a fantastic night, very atmospheric and I’d definitely recommend. 😀

I’m still buzzing from Edinburgh. 😀 

After I got back from Edinburgh, after dealing with a very sulky cat, which didn’t last long, she was too happy to have her family back and within a few hours, she was charging about, meowing and jumping in the cases. It was good to be home. XD
Problem is, that didn’t last long, either that night or the night after, I woke up and it felt like my throat was full of broken glass and sandpaper and swallowing was so painful, it was the pain that woke me up and I was trying to swallow to clear my sinuses, and it temporarily subsided enough for me to get back to sleep. Then Halloween I had to work, so I went to the library, but my throat felt like it had a slimy lump in it that coughing would not help, so I didn’t try. It wasn’t painful, but it was uncomfortable. That evening I got worse. The broken glass and sandpaper feeling was back and I had to take Thursday off work, the night before it was cold and raining and my friend told me online that I should not go out in that as it would aggravate it and make it worse. He was right, of course, so I stayed home and asleep in bed until half-one in the afternoon. I feel a fair bit better, the throat is not as painful, but I am still coughing and sneezing a fair bit, but hopefully the worst is over.

That does explain why when I called out on the EVP, my voice sounded a bit strange, I thought so at the time, but shrugged it off. I realise now that it was probably the result of me visiting a friend who had the lurgie in the week before leaving for Edinburgh, so I probably had something before I left, but it was in the incubation period and was beginning to manifest while I was there. Oh well, here’s to getting better, if not, then tomorrow night mine’s a hot toddy inside watching the fireworks, there’s been some wonderful ones this weekend. 🙂

Oh, just a quick side note: The countdown to Christmas has well and truly begun! Sunday 4th was officially the start of the Potterthon! 😀 We have this tradition where we count off the weeks until Christmas by watching each of the Harry Potter films. Seven and a half weeks to go, people! 😀

We went to a firework display at a park up the road from us, then back to ours for food drinks and laughs, so we weren’t letting any fireworks off. The cats would never forgive us !!
It was fer fer fer freeeeeeeeeeeezing last night though.
Made my own samosas and they were delish. Very pleased with them. Had lots of other goodies too, and the yes the Brownies went down well at the end.

Shamus joined us 2 years ago he had been running riot round and about…. and i was defo not going to speak to him!!!. But when i got a Puppy as a present he just would not leave my garden and, my Pup chewed him jamp on him tormented him silly until i was completely charmed…… now they are a right duo.
